This technique does historically use hairs from horses. As hair is laid upon glowing hot pots straight from the kiln, they sear onto the pot's surface and will leave carbon markings that are unique to each artwork. Some pots retain the original color or the clay; others are sprayed with a iron solution to provide additional color. A formal presentation is acheived by adding traditional glaze to interiors or rims. After washing each piece, it is handburnished with wax to a satin sheen.
Horsehair pottery art is created for decorative purposes, and is not foodsafe. It's striking originallity ensures that there will be a piece perfect for a specific setting.
