Glazes are essentially recipes of minerals mixed with sand that can fuse to clay like glass when fired in the kiln. Colorants are added, and each mixture of elements reacts to firing differently, giving us a range of colors and textures. Aditionally, variation in clay bodies, kiln heat, or glaze application often cause surprizing, often beautiful, effects.
In my glazed work I often combine formal shapes with bold glaze effects in both color and application. Glazes continue to teach, and artists continue to learn to master their nature.
